Laser hair removal is a precise treatment that requires proper preparation to ensure optimal results. At Arturo Grooming & Aesthetics, we want to provide a seamless experience with minimal discomfort and maximum effectiveness. Follow these essential steps before your appointment to get the best outcome.
1. Limit Sun Exposure
Sun exposure increases skin sensitivity, making laser hair removal treatment more uncomfortable and potentially increasing the risk of pigmentation changes.
What to Do:
- Avoid prolonged sun exposure for at least two weeks before your session.
- If you must be outdoors, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to protect your skin.
- Skip tanning beds entirely to prevent unnecessary irritation.
2. Refrain from Waxing & Plucking
Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment in hair follicles. If the root is missing (from waxing, plucking, or threading), the laser has nothing to act on, making the treatment ineffective.
What to Do:
- Stop waxing, plucking, or threading at least four weeks before your session.
- Shaving is fine, as it only removes surface hair without disturbing the root.
- If needed, trim longer hair instead of removing it completely.
3. Shave the Area Before Treatment
Shaving ensures the laser targets the hair follicle instead of surface hair, making the treatment more efficient and reducing discomfort.
What to Do:
- Shave 24 hours before your appointment using a clean, sharp razor.
- Avoid dry shaving to prevent irritation. Use shaving cream or gel for a smoother shave.
- Do not shave on the same day, as freshly shaved skin can be more sensitive.
4. Pause Certain Skincare Products
Some skincare ingredients, like exfoliating acids and retinoids, can make the skin more sensitive, increasing the risk of irritation post-treatment.
What to Do:
- Stop using products with retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or benzoyl peroxide 3–5 days before your session.
- Avoid using self-tanners, as they may interfere with the laser’s effectiveness.
- Switch to a gentle cleanser and lightweight moisturizer in the days leading up to treatment.
5. Keep Skin Hydrated & Clean
Hydrated skin heals faster and responds better to laser hair removal treatment, while clean skin prevents irritation and ensures optimal laser penetration.
What to Do:
- Drink plenty of water in the days before your appointment to keep your skin hydrated.
- On the day of your session, avoid lotions, oils, deodorants, or perfumes on the treatment area.
- Arrive with freshly cleansed skin, free of makeup or any skincare products.
